TicaPAN®: Freedom from Gum Arabic

Our long history in the gum arabic industry has given us insights into some of the needs of confection manufacturers. One need was freedom from the fluctuating cost and supply of gum arabic.

This was the motivation behind our development of the TicaPAN line of coating agents, a family of non-gum arabic based systems that are available in a non-GMO form. Depending on your finished application, the TicaPAN product line exhibits the same or even superior functionality over gum arabic at a cost that is less than gum arabic.

Based on patent-pending technology, there are three products in the TicaPAN line:

  • TicaPAN 311—A system that matches the functionality of gum arabic
  • TicaPAN Quick Crunch—A system that demonstrates superior functionality over gum arabic
  • TicaPAN Seal—A system designed especially for enrobing centers that contain oil

Features and Benefits:

  1. Cost savings - at least 20% compared to gum arabic
  2. Potential for shorter drying times - up to 20% with TicaPAN Quick Crunch
  3. Secure supply - the end of reliance on Africa for gum arabic
  4. Better results - whiter color, harder shell, crunchier shell
  5. Sugar-free and non-cariogenic

Functions and Applications:

  1. Seal: to enrobe nuts, maltballs, chocolate and other centers containing oil.
  2. Hard panning of sugar-free chewing gums: to bind and strengthen the sugar alcohol shell.
  3. Sugar panning: to strengthen the sugar shell. This is most effective when larger pans are used.
  4. Chocolate panned confections: to polish chocolate covered raisins or nuts.
  5. Edible films and glitters: to be used for cake decorating.
