FSMA-Compliant Stabilizer: GuarNT USA

The recent implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) aims to ensure the U.S. food supply, including imported food and ingredients, is safe. Focus has shifted from responsive measures concerning contamination risks to implementing enhanced preventive measures. This heightened responsibility has been placed with all food manufacturers and importers.

Although there are many items to consider in FSMA regulations, GuarNT USA helps alleviate concerns around two key elements pertaining to guar:

FSMA Compliance Concern

What is required?

TIC Gums Solution

Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)

The importer must verify that their foreign suppliers are meeting U.S. food safety standards. Under the FSVP rule importers are required to determine if food hazards are present, evaluate for possible risk, and determine and conduct appropriate verification activities, such as on-site audits and review of supplier records.

TIC Gums manufactures GuarNT USA in the United States, eliminating the need for FSVP related requirements.

However, if an audit is required to meet your company’s internal standards, TIC Gums domestic location allows easy access to audit facilities.

Preventive Controls

Preventive Controls are risk-based procedures, processes and practices applied to significantly minimize or prevent hazards in human food. Preventive Controls include a series of controls and steps that must be implemented in order to be compliant with FSMA; they include process controls, allergen control, sanitation control, supply chain and recall plan.

The proprietary manufacturing process developed by TIC Gums for GuarNT USA includes a validated microbiological kill step that ensures product safety and mitigates the risk of recalls or legal penalties associated with FSMA. A Validated Microbiological Kill Step is a scientific procedure that provides documented evidence that a process is capable of consistently eliminating a known hazard.

GuarNT USA also has a flavor free variation, GuarNT USA Flavor Free 5000, for delicate applications which have previously had usage level restrictions for standard guar gum due to “beany” or “grassy” off-notes in both flavor and odor.

Clean Label Stabilizer System Suppresses Age Gelation: Ticaloid Pro 192

Ticaloid PRO 192 AGD addresses challenges associated with ready-to-drink (RTD) dairy beverage development including age gelation, protein stabilization and texture needs while adhering to clean label parameters. Manufacturers now have the ability to customize the desired textural attributes found in such applications while maintaining the stability of the finished product and extending its shelf life.

Ticaloid PRO 192 AGD

  • Emulsifies increased oil loads better than traditional emulsifiers, such as lecithin, in heat processed beverages. Therefore allows manufacturers to expand product formulations with increased levels of nutritional oils beyond what they were able to achieve with lecithin alone.
  • Suppresses age gelation, thereby preventing gel formation during storage and increasing overall shelf life.
  • Stabilizes dairy-based protein beverages.
  • Yields a low viscosity and delivers desirable mouth coating in refreshing beverages.

Technical papers for GuarNT USA and Ticaloid Pro 192 AGD will be available at booth #1050 along with exclusive formulations and product demonstrations.
