TIC Gums launches Go Green with the Guru
In celebration of Earth Day 2017 and as a new member of the Ingredion family, TIC Gums launched initiatives to promote and foster environmental sustainability. Inspired by the Earth Day mission, TIC Gums’ Community Collaboration Committee provided opportunities that call for a more environmentally friendly lifestyle—Go Green with the Gum Guru.
On April 14, 2017, TIC Gums joined the Harford County Department of Planning and Zoning for their 14th annual Arbor Day tree planting event. Bill Zimmerman, TIC Gums Environmental Health & Safety Manager says, “The group stuck together and worked as a well-oiled machine while planting over 25 trees and bushes. It was a great team effort and a wonderful way to give back to our environment.
Another Go Green with the Gum Guru initiative calls for employees to practice sustainability in their everyday lives. TIC Gums created and supplied reusable grocery bags to all employees with the messaging that “380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year.” TIC Gums urged employees to “do [their] part in decreasing these numbers by using TIC Gums reusable grocery bags instead of plastic bags.” TIC Gums will be promoting this message along with tips and tricks for environmental friendliness through the internal television screens located throughout TIC Gums locations.
In addition to new initiatives, TIC Gums has already taken action in 2017 to become more environmentally friendly. TIC Gums also makes a regular effort to reuse shipping materials as frequently as possible and each TIC Gums employee workspace is equipped with a recycling bin to promote regular recycling. TIC Gums is proud to take steps towards a greener lifestyle and community.
